Movie Marathon 2015 Pictures

Movie marathon 2015 was a smashing success! I plan on recapping the details over a series of posts, but I thought you would enjoy a few movie marathon 2015 pictures – in all of their graphic detail!

Entertainment center The entertainment center – complete with newly-purchased soundbar and excellent movie reference material from Roger Ebert and others.
Food - Part 1

The snack  and pop spread. The flowers were a nice touch.

Food - Part 2Some healthy snacking options which I mostly did not exercise.

Food - Part 3

Three delicious meatball and barbeque sauce combinations for dinner.

Not shown in any of these pictures was the pizza armada (6 pizzas in all – most of them extra large), the sundaes bar, attendees (to protect the innocent), or the giant blizzard outside that almost scuttled the entire event!

Thanks to all who attended and made it one of the best movie marathons ever!

Movie Marathon 2015

I’ve finished the schedule for Movie Marathon 2015! We are following the usual theme of:

  1. Movies at least one of the hosts have never seen before
  2. Movies that the hosts want to see, or have heard we “should” see

We’ll be bringing back kid-friendly zones Saturday evening and Sunday morning.  From 6:30 PM to 10:00 PM Saturday, we have The Muppets and Bolt. From 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM Sunday, we have The Lion King and Mulan. From 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM Sunday, we also have Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, which would be suitable for older kids.

MST3K Is Back On Thanksgiving!

In the not-too-distant-future, next Thanksgiving A.D. There will be a guy named Joel, not too different from you or me….hosting the second streaming Turkey Day MST3K movie marathon!

The Turkey Day marathon will be streaming live starting at noon EST on MST3Kturkeyday.com. They are streaming the show via YouTube, and I believe you’ll also be able to see the show on the Official MST3K YouTube Channel.  However, some report that the 2013 marathon wasn’t playable on TV-based players like Roku.

They’ll play six episodes, with host segments by Joel Hodgson – so it’ll probably last until about 9-10 PM? The schedule hasn’t been announced yet, but you can tweet Joel with your suggestions.

Speaking of episodes – the Official MST3K YouTube Channel has two full MST3K episodes available – Manos: The Hands of Fate and Mitchell! For your convenience, I’ve embedded Manos below so you can watch it immediately.

Hollywood Nights Movie Marathon 2014

The Children’s Leukemia Foundation of Michigan is holding their 15th annual Hollywood Nights 24-hour movie marathon at Emagine theater in Novi, Michigan. I attended the Grand Rapids version of the event last year. I didn’t think I’d be able to attend this year’s event, but some last minute changes in plans freed up my weekend!

This is a charity event (like a walk-a-thon, but with less walking) and a week doesn’t leave much time for fundraising. So – if you’d like to help out children with leukemia (you aren’t in favor of child cancer… right?) here is my personal fundraising page for the event. 100% of the funding is spent helping Michigan families and $0.83 of each dollar donated goes to patients and their families. I’ll be fronting the $100 minimum donation, and getting matching funds from my employer – so Children’s Leukemia Foundation of Michigan gets $200 off the bat.

Even with short notice, however, writing this weblog has given me some tools for quick movie marathon organization. I’ll use my favorite automated movie marathon scheduler as soon as showtimes are available, and I’ll be packing my movie marathon survival kit. I’m looking forward to trying disposable toothbrushes for the first time – because that is just science in action right there!

I’ll be blogging the experience and posting photos (and video?) shortly after the event. Looking forward to it!

The World’s Premier 24-Hour Movie Marathon

An elite 24-hour movie marathon with an application process? A process in which only 2% of those who apply are invited to attend? With celebrity guest appearances and live marching bands? You must be joking.

Alamo Draft House CinemaNope – it’s real! 2014 will mark the 16th Butt-Numb-A-Thon, a 24-hour movie marathon hosted by Harry Knowles from A’int it cool news. It goes down in December every year in Austin, Texas and it has shown a whole heck of a lot of movies.

To get in last year, you had to fill out this 20-question application, and you were competing with 10,000 people to fill one of 200 seats! Here is a quick recap of the 2013 butt-numb-a-thon, from one of the attendees.

Harry’s event really makes me want to up my movie marathon game! Perhaps I should invite celebrities to my house for my 2014 movie marathon. Mel Gibson attended the 2003 Butt-Numb-A-Thon. He’s not doing much these days, right?

[Update: 8 July 2019] This event has been permanently shut down, due to assault allegations made against the event’s founder Harry Knowles. Yikes. What an awful turn of events.
